Together is a word defined in three different ways. First, it can mean with or inproximity to another person or people. The feeling of shoulders bumping against your own in a crowded room, playing a game with friends or family, or even seeing two pencils lined up right next to each other. Next, togetherness is defined by companionship or close association. Seeing loved ones at family gatherings, relaxing on the couch with a pet, or spending time with someone dear to you. Finally, it can be described as self-confident, level-headed, or well-organized. The feeling of having everything fit into a schedule perfectly, staying calm during an emotional moment, or being undefeated. Together is a word that I’ve been curious to see from the perspective of others. Everybody who has been apart of this project so far has been asked to draw “what does together mean to you” with some examples provided if needed. I spent an average of 40 minutes sitting with each person in this project conversing about the meaning of these images including what they wanted to express. Each drawing has a photo equivalent to express how it comes to life in the real world. Click on each image to read more about each person in the caption below.
This is an ongoing, open-ended, personal project that I will continue to add onto.
